DANISH MARITIME SUBCONTRACTORS ARE IN FRONT

The prospect of international climate related regulations of shipping makes Danish maritime subcontractors clap their hands.
They believe that it will fill the order books and strengthen innovation. The paint company Hempel for instance expects a yearly increase in sales at more than 100 per cent at silicone paint which diminishes ships friction in the water.
When the requirements to the ships environmental impact get more strict the business sets new standards. This makes heavy calls on the subcontractors. But the Danish subcontractors are not scared stiff. – on the contrary. They believe that an international regulation of the area would be an advantage for Danish maritime subcontractors who are very advanced in the area, writes the financial daily Børsen.
It would especially be an advantage to those who make new tailor made solutions. “That is why I see it as an advantage to the European shipping industry in general and thereby also to the Danish one – not least the subcontractors,” states Michael Prehn, deputy chief executive at Danske Maritime that represents the Danish shipping subcontractors.
He stresses that the Danish subcontractors already have focus on development of new climate and environmental solutions and that this knowhow will give them a competitive edge in relation to both American and Asiatic subcontractors.
It is especially within design and motor technique that important environmental savings can be made.
And Denmark is up front especially within these areas. We have had some of the best ship designers in the world and with regard to motors MAN B&W Diesel have designed most of the motors to the ships sailing all over the world seas transporting strawberries, toys, and French red wines.
